October Learning

Hello Dolphin Community,

It is hard to believe that we are already a full month into the school year! Students all across the district are settled into learning routines, are firmly establishing their classroom and school communities, and beginning to dive deeply into their content. This year our school district is deeply engaged in a new curriculum adoption for English Language Arts (ELA) in grades K-8. For grades 6-8 this marks year two of implementation, and in grades K-5 this is their first year of implementation. The teachers and leaders have put in a tremendous amount of work already to ensure they are prepared to bring these new learning resources to students. This learning continues throughout the year including professional development on days like today. While student had today off, our staff were hard at work in a wide-range of professional learning opportunities including deepening knowledge around the new ELA curriculum (for the appropriate staff).

This fall we have also been blessed with some wonderful weather and that has meant a largely uninterrupted fall sports season (knock on wood). Many of our sports teams are doing quite well and are poised for post-season plan. Several have gotten recent recognition in the Cape Cod Times. Our Dolphins always welcome spectators and it is a great way for our younger Dolphins to be connected with the district. If you would like to know when some of our teams are playing, be sure to check out the team schedules here.

Finally, this month families that have yet to complete their annual information verification form have received reminders via Parent Square. Completion of these forms is very important to ensure that we have the most accurate contact information for your family in the case of an emergency (even if nothing has changed since last year). It also includes important information for our school nurses that allows them to treat your child should they need to visit the health office. We are only sending the reminders to families that have not completed the form, so if you get a reminder, please go in and complete the form.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Marc J. Smith, Ed.D
Superintendent

Some Additional Stuff:

DYRSD Capital Improvements

Ever wonder how our regional schools get new roofs, modern labs, or upgraded campus facilities?  While our daily operating budget covers classroom supplies and teacher salaries, major building projects are funded separately through state building grants (MSBA) and capital funding shared across our member towns - ensuring daily learning dollars stay right in the classroom.  We invite you to visit our Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District CIP webpage to explore upcoming campus improvements, view project timelines, and see how our member communities work together to build safe, inspiring learning spaces for all our students!
