Transportation

Welcome to the Transportation Page for the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District

Transportation Provided by Five Star Bus Company

Dear Families and Students,

We are updating our bus routes across the district to help ensure all students get to school and home on time. Over the last three years, bus delays have been a big problem. Working with our bus companies, we created a better plan that follows  School Committee Policy EEA.

Here is what you need to know about the new bus rules and routes.

What is Changing on Bus Routes?

  • Fewer Bus Stops: We are combining single stops into neighborhood stops. Every extra stop adds 1 to 3 minutes to a bus ride, so fewer stops will keep buses on time.

  • Main Road Routes: Buses will stay on main roads as much as possible instead of turning down side streets or cul-de-sacs.

  • Walking Distances: Based on district policy, maximum walking distances to a bus stop are:

    • Grades K–3: Up to 1/4 mile

    • Grades 4–12: Up to 3/4 mile

(Note: Distances may be longer in special cases.)

Missed the Transportation Deadline?

If you missed the June 25, 2026 sign-up deadline, you must fill out a request in PowerSchool.

Processing Time: Requests sent after the deadline are being reviewed now. As of September 1, 2026, approvals may take up to two weeks.

Rules for School Choice Students

  • Out-of-District Choice Students:

    • Parents must provide all rides to and from school.

    • Students living outside the D-Y district cannot ride D-Y buses, even if dropped off at a D-Y bus stop.

  • In-District Elementary Choice Students:

    • Elementary students living inside the D-Y district who go to a different school within the district can ride a bus.

    • Students must use a bus stop that already exists on that school's route.

We know these changes might change your morning routine, but they are necessary to help all students get to and from school on time.

Transportation Request Process

For the 2026–2027 school year, the district has implemented a new transportation request process. In May, a transportation request form was sent to families via ParentSquare, asking them to complete a separate form for each child who needs transportation by June 25, 2026. Families who missed the deadline may still submit a request and should do so as soon as possible. Please expect up to 2 weeks for these requests to be fulfilled.
