Empowering Students to Achieve Excellence

Multilingual Learner Education Program

Welcome to the Dennis-Yarmouth Schools! Our Multilingual Learner Education (MLE) Program serves students from 15 different countries, who speak over 20 languages. Our Multilingual Learners (ML) students are enthusiastic learners who bring a wealth of cultural and experiential assets to our school community.

We are committed to providing a high quality educational program based in current research and best practices for our ML's. Our goal is to promote the academic language acquisition that students need to achieve success in American schools, while honoring our students linguistic and cultural competencies. We value our students and believe they bring rich resources which we strive to incorporate into our instructional practices.

As a WIDA state, our students are assessed each year by the ACCESS test, which measures English language development in Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Click the WIDA website link below to learn more.

Our Family Liaisons

  • Remilson DePaula

My name is Remi DePaula, and I bring extensive experience and dedication to my role as an ELE Family Liaison with the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District. I am a native of Brazil and a long-term resident of Cape Cod, where I was drawn by the region’s natural beauty and strong sense of community.

I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Suffolk University, as well as a Medical Interpreter Certificate and a Liberal Arts Certificate from Cape Cod Community College. Prior to joining the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District, I worked as a Medical Interpreter with Rapport International, where I developed strong skills in communication, advocacy, and cultural responsiveness.

I am deeply passionate about serving as a bridge between schools and families and about strengthening meaningful connections between the district and the diverse communities it serves.

  • Laura Marin-Alzate

My name is Laura Marin-Alzate. I was born in Argelia, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, and moved to the United States at the age of five. I grew up in Yarmouth and graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Emergency Management. I am currently the Spanish Family Liaison for the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District.

Having grown up in Yarmouth and now having children who are Multilingual Learners in the D-Y school system, I have a deep understanding of both the challenges families face and the process of navigating the school system.

As the Spanish Family Liaison, I use my personal and professional experiences to serve as a bridge between schools and the Spanish-speaking community, helping to facilitate communication and mutual understanding. I also support the D-Y community beyond the school setting by coaching Recreational, Travel, and Club soccer.
