Shelter and Meal Service

Hello Dolphin Community,

This has been one heck of a storm. The combined snowfall, wind, cold temperatures, and sustained power outages are putting a lot of pressure on many community resources. I would like to first thank the many D-Y Staff that have come in during this event to ensure the smooth operation of the shelter at D-Y High School. Our maintenance and grounds team have worked to keep the building open and operational, our food service team is providing three warm meals a day and a river of coffee, our nurses have provided medical support to the high volume of guests at the shelter needing medical care, and our SRO's have been here throughout providing liaison, security, and coordination activities (particularly Officer Pasquarosa who has been the Shelter Commander during this entire event). That is on top of the team of volunteers from other agencies and staff from YFD, and other town agencies that are all supporting this effort.

Our shelter is not only serving Dennis and Yarmouth, but most of the lower Cape as well following the unexpected closure of the Nauset shelter due to a mechanical failure. If you are looking for information on the shelter, please follow this link here for up-to-date information on the sheltering system.

With School being closed for the remainder of the week, we understand that this places an extra burden on many students that rely on the schools for their breakfast and lunch each day. As a result, starting tomorrow, Thursday, February 26th, we will be offering a brown bag breakfast/lunch pick up at DYHS from 1-4 pm both Thursday and Friday. Please pull around the back of the High School to the door to the right of the bus port and large dumpster. Staff from food service will come out to meet you and ask you the number of meals you are requesting and provide it to you in your car. This is a separate service from any family needing to access the shelter. If you need to access the shelter, you will need to come inside and register with the Red Cross.

Thank you for your ongoing support and stay warm.
