Where Does the Time Go?

D-Y Class of 2025 toss their caps into the air, celebrating.
Hello Dolphin Community,

This past Saturday the D-Y community came together to celebrate the class of 2025 at their graduation. While the graduation ceremony occurs at the end of the students' senior year, it is truly a reflection of their entire experience within the school system. Every member of the D-Y school system is responsible for our graduates and we collectively take pride in seeing them cross that stage in early June. Without a caring, diligent, persistent, and professional elementary and middle school teacher, these seniors would never have developed the all the skills necessary to be the independent adults they are today. This is why one of my favorite traditions here in D-Y might be the "senior walk", when the students visit their old schools and teachers. This provides a link between the present, past, and future; where our graduates can be reminded of what got them to where they are, our teachers can see the products that came of all that hard work years ago, and our youngest students can see their future selves reflected in the class of 2025.

For the remaining students, this week marks the last full week of school. Over this week, students have been showing what they have learned this year on end of the year assessments, experiencing end of the year activities like field days, being celebrated for their accomplishments, and participating in step up experiences. Our last day of school is June 17th and it will be a 1/2 day for students. Please see the website here for dismissal times. As we close out the year, it is also a great opportunity to celebrate another example of excellence here in D-Y. One of the great things our district does is to create opportunities for students to explore a wide variety of interests, develop deep proficiency in those areas, and develop positive notoriety for their accomplishments. One recent example occurred in the area of computer science where students from D-Y competed in a program to design an app for kindergarten and grade 1 students to promote digital literacy in the district. The team brought home three different awards from the competition! To read more about this, check out this story here.

Finally, I would just like to provide a quick update on the reconstruction on the turf fields at DYIMS. I had a walkthrough with the contractor and several other folks involved with the project this morning. Everything remains on schedule. If you drive by, you will see that the turf has been removed, and that most of the sub base material is removed from the lower field. Work to remove material from the upper field will begin in once school is out. Everything remains on track for a mid-August completion. We additionally, thanks in large part to the support of Yarmouth voters at town meeting, will be starting work on the Station Avenue playground project once school gets out.

Thank you or your continued support and have a wonderful summer!
