And Just Like That...

D-Y Dolphin Olympics
Hello Dolphin Community,

It is hard to believe it, but today marked the final official day of school for our high school seniors. Next week will be filled with a series of exciting "Senior Week" activities planned for as seniors attend prom, practice for graduation, receive awards, and participate in Senior Last Assembly (a great tradition here at D-Y). I am sure this is a bittersweet time for many as these students prepare for the end of their time as Dolphins and prepare for a new exciting chapter in their lives. I know that I speak for the entire D-Y community in saying how very proud of them we all are and I know that I am personally very excited to see them all walk across that stage in a week from Saturday!

Beyond our seniors, the district is a buzz with activity. Today alone I was fortunate enough to participate in 4 different events (and a schedule conflict made it so that I missed a fifth). One of the events that I was able to participate in was our first annual Dolphin Olympics which brought differently-abled students from across the district together to participate in a wide variety of events at the D-Y High School Track. Thank you very much to the staff that organized this event, as well as the staff that accompanied the students from each of the schools and the student volunteers that ensured an amazing day for all that participated. As they saying goes, it truly does take a village and the D-Y village showed up strong for this event.

Finally, during Monday's School Committee meeting, I, along with the Committee, will have the privilege of honoring nearly 30 retirees from D-Y that represent a total of 557 years of service to the students and families of D-Y. This is truly an amazing representation of dedication. Our district will most certainly miss their expertise, their wisdom, their dedication, and every gift that they provide to D-Y as individuals and collectively as a group. Please join me in expressing our deepest appreciation to our retirees and in wishing them nothing by joy and happiness in this next phase of their lives.

Thank you for the continued support and have a wonderful weekend.

Marc J. Smith, Ed.D.

A Message About Summer Work from MA Attorney General

As Massachusetts teenagers prepare for summer jobs, the Attorney General’s Office encourages educators to help minors stay safe at work.

The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office enforces the Massachusetts youth employment laws, including the work permit laws. By issuing work permits, you and your representatives play an important role in keeping young workers safe. We therefore encourage you and your designees who issue work permits to review this flowchart summarizing the work permit process and to share this information with students and parents. Materials with information about the child labor laws can be found in multiple languages on our website. Should you have any further questions about work permits, please contact the Department of Labor Standards (www.mass.gov/dols).

Should district parents or students have questions about youth employment or the MA wage and hour laws, please do not hesitate to contact our Fair Labor Division at (617) 727-3465. Workers who believe their rights have been violated at work should file complaints with the Fair Labor Division on our website (www.mass.gov/ago/fld).

Sincerely,

Andrea Joy Campbell
Massachusetts Attorney General

Remind to ParentSquare Transition

As has been noted in some of my previous messages, Remind was purchased by the company ParentSquare. D-Y has been doing work in the background to prepare for the transition between these two platforms. ParentSquare provides all of the same personalized messaging features of Remind, while also providing for newsletters, an integrated website, and more. We are excited about the opportunities to better streamline communications as we implement ParentSquare more fully over the next few months. As we prepare to move our District and School communications from Remind to ParentSquare, we ask that families click this link to follow the training guide for how to log into ParentSquare and how to navigate through messages and posts. Families should have already received an invitation to join ParentSquare through their email or text. This invitation will contain information needed to access your account in ParentSquare. Once you log in, you will be able to choose how you receive notifications and if you prefer notifications to arrive immediately or once in a day in a digest.
