Kuznetsov and Pecoraro win @ NCECA

NCECA (the national Council on Education For the Ceramic Arts) promotes and improves the ceramic arts through education, community-building, research and creative inspiration, offering programs, events and publications to support the field and communities in which we work.

NCECA’s broad interests are shaped by artists, students, individual and corporate patrons, gallery owners, museum curators, and providers of ceramic arts-related products and services.

At this year’s NCECA conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the following DYRHS students were recognized for their outstanding achievement in the Ceramic Arts. The decisions of the jurors were based upon and examination of 1203 entries for this year's exhibition. As the National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition occurs while the NCECA conference is in session, our students’ work was seen by thousands of visitors from all over the world. NCECA has awarded seniors Glen Kuznetsov  and Jon Pecoraro the following:

Glen Kuznetsov:

The Mary Bowron Scholarship Award for $500

Visionary ceramic artist Mary Bowron,  (1933-2017), lived in Maryland and was inspired by all aspects of the natural world and social justice issues. For more than 60 years she worked as a painter, potter, printmaker and sculptor. Always gratified to know young people were expressing their originality in clay, she would be pleased to know this award celebrates the creative achievement of people she never had the opportunity to meet.

The Bailey Pottery Equipment Award for $25

  • One of only 16 students chosen for cash awards and certificates of recognition.

The Honorable Mention Award

  • One of only 10 high school seniors selected by the jury for recognition.

Jon Pecoraro:

The Artistic Merit Award

  • One of only 12 high school seniors selected by the jury for recognition.
