Work-Based Learning

Students doing internships

Dennis-Yarmouth’s School to Career Program offers students structured routes for career exploration through the Work Based Learning Program. Students have the opportunity for an in-depth investigation of careers to help them make informed decisions in planning for their postsecondary education and future careers. Placements are arranged based on individuals' interests and strengths as determined by a completed application and pre-placement interview. Students are placed in community business sites for six hours per week during the school day. On the job students work with full-time employees to learn the tasks of that particular worksite and to develop transferable job skills for future employment. Students experience “all aspects” of the career they have chosen to explore. There is a structured weekly class component with the following requirements: keeping a daily journal, completing weekly sign-in sheets and assignments, developing and maintaining a portfolio, and presenting mid-term and final projects.
