Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District

Empowering Students to Achieve Excellence

Title 1

Title 1 is a federally funded program authorized under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. As stated on the Massachusetts Department of Education website, Title 1 "provides financial assistance to districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards". Each year, school districts must evaluate each of their schools on the basis of poverty levels and use that data, following federal regulations, to select Title 1 Schools. These funds are used to support students demonstrating difficulty in achieving grade-level curriculum goals in the areas of English/Language Arts and Mathematics.

All 3 elementary schools are designated as School Wide Title 1 schools, which means that all students are eligible to receive Tier 2 instruction in order to meet the challenging state academic standards. We encourage parents/caregivers to communicate with their child’s teacher if there are any questions or
concerns. Attending Parent/Teacher conferences in October and March, Family Events, and being involved in your school’s Parent Teacher Organization are additional ways to be involved.

If you have any additional questions regarding Title 1 services, please reach out to Sherry Santini, Director of Humanities and the Arts Instruction/Title 1 Coordinator at 508-398-7620.
