Frequently Asked Questions

  • Pre-registration is the process that will be initiated during your appointment at Central Registration. It will consist of helping you create your PowerSchool account, inputting basic information for your child(ren), providing you with a Welcome Packet, explaining the next steps, and answering any questions you might have.

  • Central Registration is located at:

    Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School
    210 Station Avenue
    South Yarmouth, MA 02664

    As you arrive, drive just past the main entrance and you will find some designated parking spots for Central Registration, right across from our office.

  • There are several factors that will determine how quickly your child can start class, even though the school year may have already begun. Some of these factors include:

    • The Pre-Registration form must be approved (you will receive an email notifying you of the approval)
    • You need to create a PowerSchool account after being approved
    • There are multiple documents in PowerSchool that must be filled out and documents that must be uploaded
    • Some schools may have additional steps, such as meeting with a counselor to determine a class schedule
    • NOTE: If your living situation is categorized as "homeless", the above steps are still required; however, your child will be able to start school in an expedited manner
  • No. This is one of the key benefits of Central Registration. We can handle the pre-registration process for every child during your appointment, eliminating the need to visit multiple schools.

  • You will still need to schedule an appointment with Central Registration to register the other child; however, you will not need to create a separate PowerSchool account. Much of the required information will already exist in PowerSchool under the older child's profile, allowing us to copy it over to your other child's profile; this is something we can do during the appointment at Central Registration.

  • Subtitle VII-B of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (per Title IX, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act) defines homeless as follows:

    The term “homeless children and youths”

    1. means individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence (within the meaning of section 103(a)(1)); and
    2. includes–
      • children and youths who are sharing the housing of other persons due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason; are living in motels, hotels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to the lack of alternative adequate accommodations; are living in emergency or transitional shelters; or are abandoned in hospitals;
      • children and youths who have a primary nighttime residence that is a public or private place not designed for or ordinarily used as a regular sleeping accommodation for human beings (within the meaning of section 103(a)(2)(C));
      • children and youths who are living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, bus or train stations, or similar settings; and
      • migratory children (as such term is defined in section 1309 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965) who qualify as homeless for the purposes of this subtitle because the children are living in circumstances described in clauses (i) through (iii).

    Per Title IX, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act, “awaiting foster care placement” was removed from the definition of homeless on December 10, 2016; the only exception to this removal is that “covered states” had until December 10, 2017 to remove “awaiting foster care placement” from their definition of homeless.

  • We understand how difficult it can be to find someone to watch your children, so they are welcome to join you. We have an area set aside with some toys and puzzles, along with a table they can sit at while we assist you with the registration process.
