Dear MES Families,

We would like to remind everyone that our third graders will be taking the math sections of MCAS on Tuesday, May 16th, and Wednesday, May 17th. MCAS testing is computer based. Please remember to arrive on time for school. The third grade teachers have also arranged for Therapy Dogs International to visit our third grade classrooms to celebrate our students’ hard work! Students will have the opportunity to meet the therapy dogs the morning of May 18th!

We would like to ask that when entering the building, all visitors must be “buzzed” in by the main office. Just ring the doorbell at the main door if you need to enter the building. We do this for the safety of our students and building. Should you find someone right behind you when entering the building, please ask them to wait to check in with the main office and do not hold the door open for them. We greatly appreciate your support as we maintain the safety of our school.

When dropping off and picking up students, please have students buckled in their seats when the vehicle is moving. Students should remain in their vehicles if it is moving. We ask that our families follow our traffic patterns for the upper and lower lot drop-off and pick-up procedures. If you need to park in order to visit the main office, you must park in a designated parking spot in the lower lot. Please be sure that there is adult supervision before dropping off students in the lower parking lot during morning arrival. Arrival is scheduled for 9:10 am and ends at 9:20 am. You can find the MES drop off and pick-up procedures in our Virtual Backpack or you can use this link into your browser: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Yicxf2OkRFsGWhTlVld3A29eOUegpRFGfqkl...

Mark your calendars for the Scientist Spotlight event to be shared with classrooms and an evening family event! On the evening of June 1st, from 5:30-6:30 PM, families can visit MES to share in the hands-on learning stations inspired by the work and career of Lonnie Johnson, an African American inventor, NASA engineer, and inventor of the Super Soaker! There are more details below! We hope to see you there!

Warm regards,

Ms. Mahedy and Mrs. Carlson

Early Release Day- May 24th

Our dismissal will begin at 1:55 PM. This is the time that parent pick-up will be called to the lower and upper parking lots. Just as a reminder, Early Education, Kindergarten, and Grade 1 students will be dismissed to the lower lot and Grades 2 and 3 with any younger siblings will be dismissed to the upper lot. Buses will begin to arrive at 2:00 PM. The school day ends at 2:05 PM for early release days.

For families who choose to pick up their children at dismissal, the safety of your children is our first priority and our dismissal routine has been designed with that in mind. For the lower lot, please remain in your vehicle until yours is among the first six and it is your turn to safely assist your child getting into the vehicle. Thank you!

Lost and Found

Our MES Lost and Found is exploding with valuable items that we would like to return to their rightful owners. We have many jackets, sweatshirts, vests, and other items that have been lost and need to be found! Please ask your child to visit it if they have misplaced something or visit us at the main lobby to claim a missing item. We are asking that you place your child’s name inside of their clothing or on their personal items. Thank you very much!

Therapy Dogs Visit to Grade 3- May 18th

The third grade teachers arranged for Therapy Dogs International to visit our third grade classrooms the morning of May 18th! Dogs and their handlers will visit classrooms to share time with the dogs! We look forward to celebrating the hard work of our third graders after our second round of MCAS testing!

MES Scientist Spotlight

During the MES Scientist Spotlight, our school will experience 4 hands-on learning stations inspired by the work and career of Lonnie Johnson, an African American inventor, NASA engineer, and inventor of the Super Soaker! The book “Whoosh” by Chris Barton highlights Lonnie Johnson's work and has inspired this school-wide event for our kindergarten through third grade students. This is an opportunity to link literacy, science, and math by anchoring in class preparations to the text, “Whoosh.” The 4 stations include making rockets, robots, gravity exploration and the movement of water through pressurized systems will be held in the inner courtyard. Brian Spano, Mary Cronin, and Kelly Bohl, our instructional coaches, have worked on the development of this event which includes in class literacy connections, math integration, and science hands-on exploration! On the evening of June 1st, from 5:30-6:30 PM, families can visit MES to share these experiences with us, too! We hope to see you there!

On Friday, May 12th, students shared a school-wide dance party in their classrooms via Zoom! What amazing dance moves! This was to celebrate how many flowers students earned! Our next focus will be to highlight being caring to others while continuing to encourage and recognize our students for being respectful, responsible, ready, caring and safe! Way to go, MES!

Book Vending Machine

Our school community is fortunate to share a book vending machine. The book vending machine provides the opportunity for students to receive a book to keep each school year! Classrooms are invited to use this school treasure to celebrate birthdays, special occasions, summer reading, and more! This opportunity will continue throughout the school year and we will provide the choice of summer birthdays towards the end of the school year.
