Welcome New Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith

On behalf of the D-Y School Committee, it is my pleasure to announce that after a formal search process, Dr. Marc Smith has been hired as Superintendent to succeed Carol Woodbury who retired after 18 years of dedicated service to D-Y. He will officially begin his work on July 17.

Dr. Smith comes to our district from Monomoy where he has been the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment since 2018. His prior experience includes Principal of the Wing/Forestdale Elementary Schooll, Assistant Principal in Harwich, and teaching in Bourne, but he actually began his career in D-Y and is extremely excited to once again be a Dolphin.

The past four years have been a time of enormous change in our District and our students and staff have been put to the test. I believe that getting through these challenging times have brought us together as a community and we’ve remained committed to high quality education and the social, emotional needs of our students.

With this change in leadership comes an opportunity to take a step back and evaluate our current system and practices to ensure that our priorities are mission aligned. While I am, of course, very proud of the accomplishments of this District I know there is room for improvement.  The Committee and I look forward to working with Dr. Smith on a vision for this District that remains true to our foundational beliefs, embraces innovation, and creates pathways for success for all of our students.

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Smith.
