ELPAC

English Learners Parent Advisory Council

The DYRSD ELPAC recently adopted their by-laws and voted on their Offices for the 2023/2024 School Year. 

The group will meet monthly on the last Tuesday of every month during the school year. ELPAC meetings will be held at the DYHS Library and run from 6:00-7:15 p.m. 

The group will host members of the community for educational purposes, engage in discussions to support the ELE educational programming at DYRSD, and determine and forward  initiatives. 

All EL families are welcome to join us at any of the meetings. 

Translators are available for Portuguese, Spanish, and Haitian Creole

What are ELPACs?   English learner parent advisory councils are made up of parents and legal guardians of English learners.

How can I get involved? Membership is voluntary and is open to all parents and legal guardians of students who are or have been identified as English learners.

What are the duties of ELPACs?  ELPAC duties include but are not limited to:

• Creating by-laws (rules) regarding officers and operational procedures;
• Advising the school district, school committee, and board of trustees on matters related to English learners;
• Meeting regularly with school or district leaders to participate in the planning and development of programs to improve educational opportunities for English learners;
• Advising the district or school on any new proposed language acquisition  programs;
• Reviewing district and school improvement plans as they relate to English learners; and
• Meeting at least annually with the school committee or school council.

Who should be involved?   All parents, guardians or grandparents, of English Learner students or other interested parties such as teachers and community members are welcome to participate in the EL PAC. It is your opportunity to make an impact for your child. ELPAC meetings are open, and all are welcome to attend.
