A Message to Our Families:
Dear MES Families,
We have been noticing how our students continue to demonstrate how they are respectful, responsible, ready, caring, and safe! Whether it is being respectful in the hallway by walking in a straight and quiet line or being caring by helping a classmate clean up during indoor recess, our students demonstrate these behaviors throughout the day in big and small ways. One example of this was earlier in the week when we heard the fire alarm. Although this was not an emergency or a fire, our students were respectful, responsible, ready, caring, and safe! They exited the building in record time, listened to directions, and waited to re-enter the building. While entering the building, students passed the door to classmates, shared the hallways, and got right back to their learning jobs! Way to go MES!
We hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Warm regards,
Ms. Mahedy and Mrs. Carlson
Jazz in Schools
"Jazz in the Schools" was presented to our kindergarten and first grade students on Wednesday, January 24th. Our second and third grade students will be able to share this presentation on Wednesday, January 31st. This program is presented by Bart Weisman on drums from Orleans with Fred Boyle on piano from South Yarmouth and Rich Hill on bass from East Falmouth.
The Jazz in the Schools Program was started in 2014 by Bart Weisman, Founder, Executive Producer & Performer for the Provincetown Jazz Festival. This is a chance for students to hear live Jazz and to learn about Jazz history and all styles of Jazz. Thank you to Ms. Healy, our music teacher, and the related arts team for making this possible!
Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS):
At MES, we are respectful, responsible, ready, caring, and safe. If your child is seen demonstrating this behavior, they may be given a bead. During the months of January and February, they are also given a paper “snowball” to be added to our school-wide snowman. "Snowballs" are being added daily and our snowman is growing bigger and BIGGER!
How can you support your child at home? You can use the same language that we use; respectful, responsible, ready, caring, and safe and acknowledge that behavior at home. You can also periodically ask your child if they have received a bead recently and what they did to earn it.
Donations to MES
Marguerite E. Small would like to thank the many organizations for their generous donations to our MES school community during the holidays. The First Congregational Church of Yarmouth, The Rotary Party, Bright Lights, Cape Kids Meal, Andrea Holden Foundation, Shop with a Cop, Ernie Ray and the Mount Horeb Lodge, Bass River Civic Association and Anne Marie Carlson, Harwich Food Pantry and Ms. Duggan, Fill a Backpack, and Katelyn’s Closet have provided many needed resources to support our students and their families. These donations included gift cards, wrapped toys, meals, extra food bags, water bottles, student holiday shopping experiences, and winter jackets. We are very grateful for these donations!
