A Message to Our MES Families
Dear MES Families,
We shared our Veterans Day Assembly with our students today! Ms. Healy, our music teacher, prepared the event that included a flag ceremony, the Pledge of Allegiance, and a short informational presentation about the five branches of the armed services. Edward J. Fiorentino and Timothy R. Whelan were our guest speakers! Mr. Sargent, father of Ryan and Rylynn Sargent, joined us as a Marine Corps veteran and an Army veteran with his wife, Bernalynn. During our assembly, the students learned what it means to be a veteran. Each grade level sang the patriotic song they prepared to honor our veterans! Thank you, everyone! We enjoyed sharing this experience with the MES community! Please check out some pictures below that captured the event!
Please be sure to mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 14th! Our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) will be meeting in the Art Room at 5:30 PM. We will have interpreters present. We hope to see you there!
In other news, the MES Health Office is completing our annual school health screenings. Vision screenings are complete! School pictures have arrived and will be coming home via backpack mail! Our third graders are visiting the Cape Cod Symphony Young People's Concert and Bus Evacuation Drills are coming up! We have begun our next school-wide behavior goal.. "Harvest the best at MES! Using the Dolphin Way!" There are more details below. We look forward to the busy and exciting week ahead!
Warm regards,
Ms. Mahedy and Mrs. Carlson
Grade 3 visits the Cape Cod Symphony Young People's Concert
Each fall, the Cape Symphony partners with area school districts to bring professional, live symphonic music to young people on Cape Cod. Marguerite E. Small is thrilled to have our third graders take a field trip to the Barnstable Performing Arts Center for a concert presented during the school day! Thank you Ms. Healy, our music teacher, for organizing this event!
Bus Evacuation Drills
Students at MES practice bus evacuation drills twice a year. Our first one this school year will take place the week of November 13th. At this time, students will practice how to leave the bus safely should they ever need to do so while they are traveling on the bus.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
At MES, students are expected to show what it means to be respectful, responsible, ready, caring, and safe. If your child is seen demonstrating this behavior, they may be given a bead to recognize their positive behavior. Beginning in November, they are also given a paper pumpkin, leaf, or apple to be added to our school "harvest basket" that is hanging on the wall just outside of our gymnasium. We hope to exceed the number of leaves that were hung during our last school-wide initiative!
How can you support the Dolphin Way at home? You can use the same language that we use; respectful, responsible, ready, caring, and safe and acknowledge that behavior at home. You can also periodically ask your child if they have received a bead or paper pumpkin recently and what they did to earn it.
