A Message to Our Families:
Dear MES Families,
What a busy week we shared! Our third graders are coming home with their recorders from music class. Mrs. Healy, our music teacher, has shared some more information about this below. Students were also invited to take a gently used book home during our "Love a Loved Book" event. There was no limit to the number of books that students could select. The meteorologist visited our second and third graders and our Kids Heart Challenge raised over one thousand dollars! Check out more information below from Ms. Buron, our physical education teacher.
Please mark your calendars for our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) meeting that has been rescheduled to after vacation on Tuesday 2/27th at 4pm in the art room. The PTO is planning on many exciting events that are coming up such as the Scholastic Book Fair, Fun Run, and Oyster Shucking Event! Come join us to learn more and find out how you can support MES!
We hope that everyone has a wonderful February break!
Warm regards,
Ms. Mahedy and Mrs. Carlson
Recorders for 3rd Graders!
Dear families of Grade 3 students!
Students will be coming home for vacation with new recorders and packets containing the sheet music we will be learning. The packets have been three-hole punched so they can go right into their binders. Please encourage your students to practice for 5 - 10 minutes each day. Students will need to bring their recorders into school on their music day, so I recommend that they keep their recorders stored in their backpacks with their binders so they don't forget them. Students in room 202 have music on Day 2, students in 309 have music on Day 3, and students in 310 have music on Day 4. When we return to school after February vacation on Monday, February 26, it will be a Day 4, so students in 310 will need their recorders. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about our Grade 3 Recorder curriculum.
Mrs. Healy,
Music Teacher
Meteorologist visited 2nd and 3rd Grade!
Jacob Wycoff, a meteorologist from WBZ-TV, WSBK-TV, and CBS News Boston, joined MES this week! In addition, Mr. Spano, our stem instructional coach, has connected this experience to our next Scientist Spotlight! Check out these pictures highlighting the event!
Murals by Second Grade
Our second graders created murals inspired by James Goldcrown's work! Check out these masterpieces created by our young artists from Miss Johnson's second grade art class. Thank you, Mr. Walker, our art teacher, for sharing these with our school community!
100th Day of School!
We celebrated the 100th Day of School on Friday, February 9th! check out these highlights from our school!
Kids Heart Challenge
MES has raised $1,228.38! Due to the snowstorm on Tuesday, the Kids Heart Challenge Fundraiser will continue after February Vacation so the classes that missed it will still get to partake in the fun. There is still time for families to register at heart.org/schools then click on "Find Your School" and type in M.E. Small Elementary School in the search box. Once registered your child will receive a free bracelet. If they complete Finn's Mission learning how to do hands only CPR they will receive another prize free of charge and will be entered to win 2 free tickets to next year's Super Bowl!! Hope you will consider donating!!
