A Message to Our Families:
Dear MES Families,
As we look ahead to next week, we wanted to highlight some of the great events that are happening! The partial solar eclipse is scheduled to take place on April 8th! We want to thank Brian Spano, our STEM instructional coach, for helping us prepare for this astronomical event. MES has solar glasses for each student and staff member to allow for a brief experience of the partial solar eclispe! Here is Dr. Smith's message regarding the partial solar eclipse. https://www.smore.com/n/7zj1a-superintendent-s-message
Our third graders have finished the first two of four sessions for MCAS. We are so proud of our students. We take these assessments very seriously and ensure that students have the time and space to do their very best! To celebrate their hard work, the third grade teachers have scheduled a special visit with Therapy Dogs International Cape Cod on April 11th. What a perfect way to come together as a community and enjoy some time with our four legged friends!
Our preschoolers, kindergartners, and first graders will share a virtual author visit with Valerie Bolling on April 11th and our entire school community will partake in the FUN RUN on April 10th! Check out more information on these events and more below!
We hope that everyone enjoys the weekend!
Warm regards,
Ms. Mahedy and Mrs. Carlson

Virtual Author Visit: Preschool, K, and Grade 1
On Thursday, April 11, 2024, MES will welcome author, Valerie Bolling, via Zoom! This visit is supported by a grant from Mid-Cape Cultural Council. Valerie’s books will be funded by a Cape Cod 5 Grant. Teachers will receive Valerie’s books before the visit. Thank you, Mary Cronin, our literacy coach for making this visit possible!
April is Autism Awareness Month
Autism Awareness Month provides us with an opportunity to amplify our efforts in fostering an inclusive environment where all students feel valued and supported. By increasing awareness about Autism, we can continue to cultivate an empathetic and accepting community within our school.
We are inviting the school to wear rainbow colors on April 12th. The idea behind wearing rainbow colors is to reflect the diversity of the autism community and to embrace the unique strengths and talents of individuals with ASD.
The outcomes we hope to address through this "spirit day" include:
Starting a conversation: This is a great conversation starter for students and can provide multiple opportunities to educate about the concept of autism acceptance.
Fostering Unity: Coming together to wear rainbow colors can build a sense of unity and solidarity among students, teachers, and staff, reinforcing the message that we are all part of a supportive and inclusive community.
Celebrating Diversity: Autism Acceptance Day provides a platform for celebrating the unique strengths, talents, and perspectives of individuals with autism, contributing to a culture of appreciation for neurodiversity.
Continuing to Create a Safe Space: By visibly showing support for autism acceptance, we create a safe and welcoming space for students with ASD and encourage them to feel proud of who they are.
Calmer Choice Video Project
Here is the last set of Calmer Choice videos created by our students in Mrs. Martin's first grade class! These videos share some of the strategies that our students have been learning about while practicing mindfulness. Poetry Fridays at MES
Every Friday at MES, we share a poem with our school community during announcements. This poem is also sent to our classrooms. Mrs. Cronin, our literacy coach, invites everyone to share these poems with our students. Today's poem honors our multilingual learners:
Me x 2
by Jane Medina
I read times two.
I write times two.
I think, I dream,
I cry times two.
I laugh times two.
I’m right times two.
I sing, I ask,
I try times two.
I do twice as much
As most people do.
‘Cause most speak one,
but I speak two!
