A Message to Our Families:
Dear MES Families,
Since April is Autism Awareness Month, all members of our school were invited to wear rainbow colors today. The idea behind wearing rainbow colors is to reflect the diversity of the autism community and to embrace the unique strengths and talents of individuals with ASD. It was wonderful to see so many of our school community showing their support!
Our MES Fun Run was a huge success and we exceeded our school fundraising goal! Check out the results below! Our early education students, kindergarteners, and first graders enjoyed a virtual visit from the author, Valerie Bolling, and Forsyth Dental came to support many of our students.
As a reminder, we do not have school during the week of April 15th. We hope that everyone enjoys their April break!
Warm regards,
Ms. Mahedy and Mrs. Carlson
MES Fun Run
The Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) hosted an amazing event and fundraiser for our school. The "Fun Run" was an opportunity to bring our school community together with a goal to raise $10,000 for our school. This money will go towards supporting experiences and events for students such as field trips, guest speakers, materials, and more! As of April 11th, our families, friends, and community members helped us raise over $17,000! What an incredible experience for our students and our families. Thank you everyone for your support!
In addition to the "Fun Run," the PTO provided popsicles for every student in our school and will be throwing a pizza party for Mrs. Ferreira's class who had the most donations! Since we reached our school donation goal, Ms. Mahedy, our principal, will be slimed on May 17th! She will be joined by fellow staff members: Mrs. Caldwell, Ms. Duggan, Mrs. Hudock, Mrs. Peace, and Miss Wojciechowski. We are looking forward to this "slime time!"
Celebrating Our Stripes: Art Inspired by "All My Stripes"
The book, All My Stripes: A Story for Children with Autism, by Shaina Rudolph and Danielle Royer and illustrated by Jennifer Zivoin inspired artwork by our second grade students! Mr. Walker, our art teacher, has showcased these masterpieces in our school! Each student has created a unique piece of art that represented their individuality and celebrated the beauty of their own "stripes." Students used an array of cool and warm colors over the course of three art classes to create their final product. These paintings serve as a visual reminder of the value of diversity and the importance of embracing all the colors that make up our world!
Virtual Author Visit: Preschool, K, and Grade 1
On Thursday, April 11, 2024, author Valerie Bolling made a Zoom visit to our Grade 1, Kindergarten, and afternoon Preschool classrooms. Valerie read two of her books: TOGETHER WE RIDE is about a girl learning to ride a bike with the help of her dad; and RIDE, ROLL, RUN: TIME FOR FUN is about all the ways that we can have fun playing outside.
Our students loved meeting Valerie on Zoom and they enjoyed her lively reading of her playful picture books! Thank you to the Mid-Cape Cultural Council and a Cape Cod 5 grant, which funded the visit and the purchase of Valerie's books.
Main Office Highlights
Each morning, a few students come to the main office to say the pledge of the allegiance. Each classroom takes turns sharing in this morning routine, so that all of our students get the opportunity to participate if they choose. Check out Mrs. Criser's kindergarten class who joined together as a class community!
