Welcome, Susan Tan
Last Friday, we had a terrific visit from our Family Book Club author, Susan Tan! How lucky are we to meet the author of a book we all read?
We are in the collection phase of our Penny Harvest philanthropy project. In January, every classroom contributed ideas about which charities they would like to support with the funds raised. All of these ideas will be considered by our third grade student leaders, who will meet weekly to plan the rest of our philanthropy project. We set a goal of raising $1,500 this year, and will be collecting change until Friday March 15th. This year marks our 14th Penny Harvest, and to date we have collected and distributed more than $18,700!
In March, we will continue with our Read Around Town book nights! During these events, students join a Zoom meeting to listen to and then discuss books. All students who join the Zoom get a free book on the day after the meeting. What a great way to pass the month of March! Reading Nights are scheduled for the following Wednesdays: 3/13, 3/20, 3/27, and 4/3.
In March, we will also play our version of March Madness. Each day in their classrooms, students will listen to a new picture book read by an EHBi staff member. After they listen to two stories, they vote for their favorite. "Winners" from each "bracket" then compete head to head until there is only one champion. It may not be college basketball, but our "March Madness" is equally competitive, as staff members vie for the honor of reading the champion title!
It seems like a good time to review drop off and pick up procedures in the lower parking lot. In the morning, cars should form a single line. One staff member motions where cars should stop, and three vehicles are unloaded at once. If you park your car and walk your child to the entrance, please don't cross in front of the traffic until a staff members motions you to do so. For the safety of our students, no car should try to pass another or form a second line.
In the afternoon, please form two lines of traffic. A staff member will approach your car and bring your child to your vehicle. If you park and meet your child at the entrance, please be mindful of the traffic. Pick up time can be very busy! Thanks for your help!
