Friday Fun!
These second graders unwind after a Friday afternoon math assessment!
Welcome to 2024! January will be an exciting and busy month at our school! The fun begins next week:
- We will host a Family Reading Night, via Zoom, on Tuesday evening at 6:30. I will send the Zoom link Tuesday morning. I will read a few books to students, and talk about our Family Book Club which will begin the next week. All students who attend the Zoom meeting on Tuesday will get a free book to take home on Wednesday. Join in the fun!
- On Tuesday, January 16th, we begin our Family Book Club! We will send home a copy of the book, Cilla Lee-Jenkins Future Author Extraordinaire by Susan Tan, to each family. We will ask families to read a few chapters every week which will be discussed in classrooms. We will finish the book in early February. Isn't it so exciting that the whole school will read the same book? On Friday, February 9, 2024, the author, Susan Tan, will visit our school and talk to our students about writing! The author visit is being provided by PTAC, who raised the funds to bring this special event to our students!
- On Thursday, January 18th, we will kick off our second, and largest, school-wide community service project, The Penny Harvest. Students are already brainstorming about community charities that they care about and would like to support. They will share their ideas at our Wheel of Caring Assembly. We will be collecting spare change for several weeks after the assembly and will ultimately decide which charities should receive grants from the students at our school. Please watch for more information soon.
- PTAC is a group of parents and staff members who meet regularly to raise money to support enriching events at our school. They have provided funds to pay for our upcoming author visit and for transportation costs for field trips. There is so much more we would like to do, including a special breakfast and classroom visit for grandparents in the spring. We need your help! Please consider joining our next Zoom meeting on Wednesday, January 17th, via Zoom, at 6:30 PM.
Lost and Found!
Gabby is shocked by the number of items in our Lost and Found! Please encourage your child to search for their missing clothes! Please help by labeling your child’s clothing with their name! Thanks!
