A Message to Our Families:
Dear MES Families,
We want to thank you for supporting our morning drop-off and dismissal routines. As a community, these processes help us maintain the safety of the building and our students, ensure the efficiency of these busy times of the school day, and allow students to start their day in a consistent way. We wanted to provide a couple of reminders to these routines. If you are dropping off your child in the lower lot in the morning, please join one of the two lines and remain in your vehicle. Please do not enter or park in the upper lot as this is reserved for our buses. You may check out our school's arrival and dismissal routine and much more in our Family-Student Handbook.
Next week, we will have two opportunities for students to bring home books to enjoy over February Break. The Rotary Club of Yarmouth has donated books to each of our families at MES! We are also sharing the "Love a Loved Book" event where students can select a gently used book to enjoy and share. MES will also be welcoming the meteorologist, Jacob Wycoff, on Monday, February 12th! Our second and third graders will be able to share in this presentation and link it to another scientist spotlight! The Kids Heart Challenge is beginning next week. Thank you, Mrs. Buron, for making this possible and for everyone's support! Remember to join us in the MES art room for our next Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) on Tuesday, February 13th at 4 PM! There is more information below regarding next week's events and more!
We hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Warm regards,
Ms. Mahedy and Mrs. Carlson
Rotary Club of Yarmouth Book Donations
Our February book donation from the Rotary club of Yarmouth will be coming home during the week of February 12th! Every family at MES will receive a book! The oldest sibling of the family will be taking the book home to share. Inside the front book cover there is a QR code that can be scanned to listen to a member of the Yarmouth Rotary Club read the book, Pinkalicious: Tickled Pink, by Victoria Kann. We are very grateful for this generous donation for our students.
Love a Loved Book
Students at MES will be able to select a gently used book of their choice throughout the week of February 12th. These books have been donated to our school and we are excited to be able to share them! Students are not limited on the number of books that they select and this will be available to them throughout the week. We hope that you and your child enjoy these new treasures at home and over February break!
Meteorologist Coming to MES!
Jacob Wycoff, a meteorologist from WBZ-TV, WSBK-TV, and CBS News Boston, is coming to MES! Our second and third grade students will have the opportunity to share in this experience! Thank you to Mr. Sandone, our receptionist, and Mr. Spano, our STEM instructional coach, for making this happen! Mr. Spano will be offering an engineering design challenge in which student can design and test a sail using a Popsicle stick, a sled, fishing line tracks, and a fan. This is linked to our scientist spotlight focused on Joanine Simpson who sailed on Cape Cod!
What do you love?
Students and staff are able to share what they love by writing and/ or drawing a quick note to be showcased outside of our occupational therapy and speech and language classroom. What a sweet way to bring our school community together!
Early Education Spotlight!
Our preschoolers are learning about community helpers! Check out these students delivering mail to Mr. Sandone, Mrs. Tourgee, and Mrs. Sherlock in the main office!
Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS):
At MES, we are respectful, responsible, ready, caring, and safe. If your child is seen demonstrating this behavior, they may be given a bead. During the months of January and February, they are also given a paper “snowball” to be added to our school-wide snowman. Our snowman is GROWING! Let's keep up the good choices, MES!
How can you support your child at home? You can use the same language that we use; respectful, responsible, ready, caring, and safe and acknowledge that behavior at home. You can also periodically ask your child if they have received a bead recently and what they did to earn it.
